Stephanie Baird for Brazoria County
Justice of the Peace
Precinct 4, Place 2
Ethics. Education. Empathy.
Meet Stephanie
My name is Stephanie Baird, and I am running for Brazoria County Justice of the Peace, Precinct 4, Place 2. I am a veteran, a nurse of nearly 16 years, and a committed community advocate.
I was raised across diverse communities in Texas, Florida, and Saudi Arabia, experiences that shaped my deep appreciation for cultural understanding and public service. After serving in the United States Coast Guard, I earned my Airframe & Powerplant certification before transitioning into nursing. My clinical work in correctional, mental health, and substance use facilities has strengthened my compassion, judgment, and commitment to advocating for my patients and others.
I am running to help close gaps in understanding around reproductive health and mental health, gaps I witnessed front and center observing the 88th session of the Texas Legislature. I will bring informed, thoughtful leadership to this role. As the only candidate with a medical background, I offer a unique and necessary perspective—especially in a county where we are without a dedicated medical examiner’s office, meaning Justices of the Peace play a critical role in death investigations. My experience in medicine and working alongside law enforcement allows me to approach complex cases with professionalism and clarity.
I currently serve as President of the Southern Brazoria County Democrats and lead committees focused on education, health, and community action. I am also an active member of the Brazoria County NAACP, a Volunteer Deputy Voter Registrar, and a dedicated volunteer with local organizations.
My platform is rooted in ethics, education, and empathy. I am committed to transparency, accountability, and ensuring that the Justice of the Peace office serves—and reflects—the people of Brazoria County with integrity and care.
Issues
-
I believe public service should be grounded in integrity, transparency, and accountability. As a nurse, I’ve been held to the highest ethical standards throughout my career, and I will bring that same commitment to this office. No matter your name, background, or position, you deserve fairness and honesty from your Justice of the Peace.
-
I am committed to closing the knowledge gap around the justice system, public health, and the role of the Justice of the Peace. Through community outreach and education, I strive to make the court system more accessible and less intimidating. An informed community is an empowered community—and that benefits us all.
-
My career in nursing—especially in mental health, corrections, and substance use—has taught me to lead with compassion. I understand that many people come into the courtroom during difficult moments in their lives, and they deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. I will always approach this role with empathy and a deep commitment to serving people where they are.
